AI on your phone can already generate images, summarize text, answer questions and help write messages. But one of Android’s most interesting new AI features in 2026 is much less flashy — and that may be exactly what makes it useful.
Gemini can now help you remember where you put things through its integration with Find Hub.
In practice, you can tell your phone where you stored something important and retrieve that information later. It is a simple use of AI designed to solve a very common problem: forgetting where you left your keys, documents or other everyday items.
The feature was introduced as part of the September 2026 Android Drop. According to Google’s official Android announcement, Gemini can save the location of important items in Find Hub so you can find that information later.
Imagine putting your passport in a drawer before a trip.
You can tell Gemini to remember where you stored it and optionally add a photo. The information is saved in Find Hub.
When you need the passport again, you can check your remembered items or simply ask Gemini where you put it.
There is an important distinction.
The feature does not turn every object into a trackable device.
If you put ordinary keys in a drawer and tell Gemini about it, AI remembers the location you provided. If someone later moves those keys, your phone will not automatically know their new location.
Tracking the physical position of an object still requires compatible tracking hardware.
Instead, this feature works more like a digital memory for things you want to remember.
Reporting on the rollout of Find Hub’s new Remembered feature shows that users can save an item’s name, storage spot, picture, location and additional notes.
Think about items you may not use every day but often store somewhere specific:
Instead of relying entirely on your memory, you can record the location when you put the item away.
It may sound minor compared with AI tools capable of generating images and videos, but it illustrates a bigger shift: artificial intelligence is moving into ordinary phone tasks.
Google says the remembered-items feature requires Android 16 or later and is available in countries where Gemini and Find Hub are supported.
Rollouts can also happen gradually. Having a compatible Android version does not necessarily mean the feature will appear on every phone at exactly the same time.
Google’s Android Community announcement also lists Android 16+ as the requirement for Find Hub remembered items.
Keeping Android, Gemini and Find Hub updated is therefore important if you want to receive new features when they become available for your device.
There is another consideration: telling your phone where you store documents, keys and other belongings creates information worth protecting.
That does not automatically make the feature unsafe. It means protecting your account and phone becomes even more important.
Use a strong screen lock, enable biometrics where appropriate and protect your Google Account.
This applies to any smartphone feature that stores personal information. As we explain in our PSafe guide on why updating Android helps protect your phone, system updates can deliver important security and privacy improvements even when there is no obvious visual change.
New AI announcements often focus on spectacular capabilities. But some of the most useful applications may be the ones that solve small everyday problems.
Asking Gemini to remember where you put your passport does not sound revolutionary.
Until the day you need it and cannot remember which drawer you used.
The Gemini and Find Hub integration points toward an interesting future for mobile AI: less technology for show and more practical help in everyday life.
