What is Countable?<\/b><\/p>\n

Countable was created by a team in D.C. and San Francisco. The creators of Countable declare that the app is for those who \u201chate politics.\u201d With their app, they remove the \u201cpolitics\u201d and present users with the information they need to be informed and active citizens. This way, our democracy can be more similar to what our founders envisioned.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to the app, organizations and politicians also use Countable to build support for their viewpoints and encourage donations. What does Countable include?<\/b><\/p>\n

The Countable app has a wide variety of features. These include but are not limited to: summaries of current House and Senate bills, in addition to arguments in support or against each bill; how the various bills, if passed, will affect you; how much the bill would cost; and the option to \u201cvote\u201d on the bill in-app and debate with other Countable users about particular bills.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to providing you with crucial information, this app\u2019s other strength is how it helps you take action. This app allows you to hold your representatives accountable \u2014 after all, they\u2019re supposed to work for you, their constituent. The app will show you how your views compare with the representative\u2019s views, and whether or not the representative earned your support. You can also easily email your representatives through the app about issues that concern you, such as their decision on a new bill.<\/span><\/p>\n

Where does Countable get its information?<\/b><\/p>\n

The app\u2019s sources for summaries and arguments include news and research sites, the Congressional Budget Office, the Congressional Research Service, and the committees in charge of the legislation, among others.<\/span><\/p>\n

Countable isn\u2019t a perfect solution<\/b><\/p>\n

While this app makes it easier to contact your representatives and be informed on current legislation, it doesn\u2019t make it easier for your representatives to hear you or respond to you. Unfortunately, congressional representatives are often understaffed. It is often very difficult for representatives to respond to the high volume of calls and emails they receive. If possible, go to town hall meetings or to their offices, and continue to remind them that your voice should be heard.<\/span><\/p>\n
