Here Are the Best Android Apps for Diabetics

Diabetes is a nationwide concern. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s 2014 Statistics Report, more than 29 million people in the US have diabetes. Thankfully, there are a lot of highly rated apps available in the Play store that can help make diabetes management easier. Many of them are free to download as well, so there’s no reason you shouldn’t check them out now.

mySugr Diabetes Logbook

This app is one of the most popular diabetes management apps in the world. It offers an aesthetically pleasing, colorful, minimalist design. mySugr works with both type 1 and type 2 diabetes to help you control and manage your day-to-day life. Track your blood sugar, food intake, carbohydrates, medicine, HbA1c, weight, and etc. The app also offers graphs, in addition to daily, weekly, and monthly feedback on how you’re doing. You can also upgrade to mySugr Pro to receive reports for your doctor, access searchable locations and food, and receive blood sugar scans and reminders, among other features. There’s also mySugr Junior, an app for children that strives to make diabetes management more playful and enjoyable.

Diabetes:M

This app, by Sirma Medical Systems, works with smartphones, tablets, and even smart watches. It’s not as visually appealing as the former app, but it is a great option for thorough diabetes management. This app tracks your food intake, blood pressure, HbA1c, insulin, exercise, personal details such as weight, and your BMI, among other things. It also provides detailed reports for your doctor, a searchable food database, and charts to show how you’re doing over time, such as with your insulin levels or glucose activity. The app even has a bolus calculator that shows you how a particular calculation was achieved. Confused about where to test for glucose? There’s a handy map for that, too.

Diabetes & Diet Tracker

Unlike the other apps, this $9.99 app from the Play store promises to be a complete diabetes management tool. It works with type 1, type 2, prediabetes, and gestational diabetes. This app will help you to monitor your health, adhere to a proper diet and exercise regime, record your data and medications, and track your blood glucose. It focuses not on just managing diabetes, but living with diabetes.

Be Aware of Malicious Apps

There is a large volume of diabetes management apps available in the Play store. As always, be cautious about which apps you download. Many malicious apps are designed to mimic popular apps. To decrease your risk of downloading a malicious app, steer clear of any apps with few downloads and reviews, unnecessary permission requests, and an “off” design. Further, download PSafe Total to protect your Android against malicious threats 24/7.
