Dangerous New Android Malware Discovered

It seemed like Android malware was on the decline, but everything just changed. In a surprising turn of events, it has been discovered that more than 10 million Android phones are sitting ducks for hackers.

Before you do anything else, click the button below to use your DFNDR app to run a Full Virus Scan and ensure that your Android smartphone has not been compromised:

Unfortunately, it turns out that hundreds of apps in the Google Play store possess a security issue that could allow hackers access to any phone that has installed them.

According to a paper published by the University of Michigan, a team of researchers found that apps that make open ports on cellphones are leaving behind major security holes. In fact, the University of Michigan team scanned 24,000 apps and revealed that more than 400 apps are vulnerable, with fifty-seven of them discovered to undoubtedly possess the Android malware. With at least one of those apps receiving millions of downloads, this is a huge problem.

What’s the big deal? Well, if you’ve downloaded any of these apps, malware could have been installed on your phone remotely. Your personal data, like your contacts, images, and even bank account information could be stolen. Protect specific high-risk apps like banking and mobile payment apps with a second password using Applock:

One of the apps that has been infiltrated is the WiFi File Transfer app, which has been downloaded by users between 10 million and 50 million times. Sure, it’s simple to transfer docs from a phone to a laptop, but with the security issue it would also be easy for a hacker to start transferring your files, too.

What can you do? For starters, you can uninstall the app. Then? You need Android malware protection. That’s where your DFNDR app comes in. You don’t have to leave your Android’s security to chance. Instead, you can make scanning for viruses and malware a part of your daily routine.

It’s easy to begin. Click on the button above, or open your DFNDR app, then go to “Tools,” and then “Full Virus Scan.” Every file on your phone and your SD card will be checked thoroughly. At the end, you will receive a report so you can see how it turned out.

You already know to avoid third party app download sites, but sticking with the Google Play Store isn’t enough. Run a Full Virus Scan every time you download a new document or install a new app so that you’ll always have full antivirus protection.

Don’t neglect your Android’s security. Your smartphone carries plenty of personal data — keep it protected with DFNDR.
