How Much Memory Do You Need on Your Phone?

It’s vital to stay cognizant of the storage and memory status on your phone. No matter what type of smartphone you have, you want it to perform as smoothly as possible. Now that we use our phones similarly to how we use computers, our phones can become overwhelmed with data and tasks. Use DFNDR’s Memory Booster function to identify and disable background apps that are hogging your phone’s memory. This will free up your device’s RAM so that you don’t experience lagging, freezing, or crashing. Click here to speed up your device:

What’s the difference between RAM and memory?

First of all, it must be established that RAM and memory are not the same — the two are often conflated. RAM, which is an acronym for “Random Access Memory,” is the “volatile working memory” capability within your phone. Specifically, it is what processes active functions such as running apps and playing music. A RAM overload can result in a significant blow to your device’s performance speed. Memory is different from RAM in that it processes all of the static data on your phone, such as your application and music library, text message archives, and more.

However, RAM is specifically important to prioritize, for it is the function on your phone that enables it to multitask. As a result, more RAM typically correlates with a faster device speed. So this begs the million dollar question: how much RAM is necessary for an Android smartphone to function properly? Well, the answer is quite subjective because it is contingent upon how much you rely on your phone.

To elucidate, if you only use your phone to contact family members and have no other use for it, then RAM is pretty much irrelevant to your phone usage. On the other hand, if you are a business person who runs your business from your phone, then you should have an adequate amount of RAM to prevent any lagging in your day-to-day to functions.

As a result, this question would best be answered by where you purchased — or plan to purchase — your phone. Tell the representative the amount of work you expect to perform on your device, and they should provide good insight as to the optimal amount of RAM to have on your phone.

In terms of your phone’s static memory, it is important to have a high amount of RAM storage if you wish to download several apps and have a gallery full of pictures and videos. Your local Verizon or AT&T store, for example, should also be able to point you in the right direction if you wish to find an appropriate amount of memory.
