Oscar Nominations: How to Stream This Year’s Movies

It’s finally that time of year: awards season. There’s the SAG Awards, the BAFTAs, the Golden Globes, and of course, the Oscars. Sometimes it can be hard to keep track of which movies, actors, and actresses are in the running to win big. This year, like in many past years, there is one group of movies and celebrities whose names keep coming up over and over again in the nominations.

This year’s best picture nominees include: La La Land, Arrival, Lion, Hell or High Water, Hidden Figures, Moonlight, Hacksaw Ridge, Manchester by the Sea, and Fences. Although a few of these movies have already swept up awards at other award shows (and seem to be frontrunners), one of the best parts about the Oscars is that it’s anyone’s game. No matter the previous outcomes, any movie could take home the coveted prize.

Even though La La Land’s Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling have already won several awards for their performances, they are nominated alongside many other talented actors and actresses. In the best actress categories, other nominees include: Isabelle Huppert, Ruth Negga, Meryl Streep, and Natalie Portman. The other best actor nominees are: Andrew Garfield, Denzel Washington, Casey Affleck, and Viggo Mortensen. If you want to watch this year’s nominated films on your Android device, be sure to activate Accelerate Internet to ensure that you’ll have the best streaming quality possible:

How to Watch the Nominated Films

So, you’ve decided to watch the films and make your own decisions about the stories, actors, and performances. Well, there are many different options to choose from, depending on the film. Hacksaw Ridge and Manchester by the Sea are available on Amazon, while many of the films are still available to view in theaters, like Arrival, Fences, Hidden Figures, La La Land, and Lion.

Aside from the best picture nominations, many other films and shows will be available on other streaming services. Florence Foster Jenkins, Hell Or High Water, and Deepwater Horizon will be available on iTunes while several of the documentary nominations like Extremis and 13th are available on Netflix.

A Year of Breaking Records

See all of these films and more before the Oscars on February 26. The standout nominations from this year include Meryl Streep, who received a record-breaking 20th nomination, and La La Land, which also broke records with 14 nominations. This year’s nominations also include a more diverse group than in previous years, with more people of color being nominated across categories. Dev Patel has been nominated for best supporting actor, Octavia Spencer and Naomie Harris have been nominated for Hidden Figures, and Moonlight has been nominated in the best supporting actress category.
