Snapchat’s International Headquarters Moves to London

By now, the whole world is on board the Snapchat train. With over 300 million monthly users and an impressive track record of groundbreaking features, it is one of the most widely used apps in history, spanning over several Internet services and electronic devices from every carrier. Now, the relationship will go overseas, as Snap Inc.’s headquarters has relocated to London, England.

Why Did Snapchat Move Locations?

A few factors have affected this move. Social media companies that have found success usually set up shop in other European countries, mainly Ireland and other EU countries, whose business ties to the US maintain strength in many production arenas. Snapchat’s yearly revenue is one of the main inspirations for the move, as their numbers are projected to increase to over $20 billion in value this year. In addition, the UK has several attractive qualities to potential business moguls, including low taxes on corporation practices and “creative industries” that will allow for Snapchat to thrive.

More About the UK Relocation

Snapchat already has an office in the UK, so this will essentially be an expansion for the current members in the office. Critics are calling this decision a bold one, due to the unique origin of the decision; most major app companies do not choose the UK as their main location. The headquarters will most likely be set up near Soho in London.

London is a Hip, Global City

One other detail might have also prompted the switch. Snapchat targets a decidedly younger demographic, both for consumer purposes and for potential and current employees. The social networking app is particularly popular among Generation Z and Millennials. By moving to a large, progressive city to generate a following for a social media platform, Snap Inc. will have an easier time finding willing, hardworking individuals to contribute to the company.

The Origin and Future of Snapchat

The original office was located in Los Angeles, where CEO Evan Spiegel first engineered the idea for Snap Inc. near his Venice Beach home. Moving the company to London means that the company values what the area will offer. As one of the global centers of the world, London should be a good fit for Snapchat. Although the post-Brexit stigma might discourage other companies from relocating there, this hasn’t affected companies like Snapchat. Regardless of location, this looks to be a beneficial move for Snapchat. It will only expand on the company’s success.
