Strangers Can Watch Your Facebook Live: How to Prevent This

Did you know that when you livestream your life on Facebook Live, you could be sharing your personal details with anyone, anywhere? Or that your Facebook page could be taken over by a scammer? Use Social Guardian now to protect your social apps. You can even use it to create a second password to prevent strangers from accessing your page. (Just make sure you know how to create a strong password). It also notifies you when you clicked on something that seems like a scam or a virus. Protect your social apps now:

Going Live

Facebook Live is one of the most recent steps in the evolution of social media. It allows users to livestream everything from marriage proposals to freestyle rap performances. Business owners can use the feature to more directly engage with their customers. Sometimes we get so excited about new technology, though, we forget how important it is to protect our privacy online.

Are Strangers Really Watching?

Just like with the content you post on your timeline, your privacy settings determine who can see you on Facebook Live. If yours is set to “public,” absolutely anyone could be watching you. This might not be a problem for some. If you are posting on behalf of a company or brand, or are trying to grow your own business, it’s a good idea to keep your livestream activity public since you probably want to reach as many people as possible. However, it’s highly advisable to keep your personal posts within your inner circle. The coolest — and potentially scariest — thing about Facebook Live is that you’re sharing exactly where you are and who you’re with in real time. It’s important to keep this information from those who could use it for sinister purposes.

How to Protect Yourself

Any time you are getting ready to activate Facebook Live, be sure to click on the privacy setting icon to see the options. You can share a post with your entire friends list or you can customize your settings to include only certain people in your audience. If you want to test it out, just use the “Only Me” setting and you can preview your livestream before going live in front of others. Remember to check these privacy settings each time, especially if you access Facebook on multiple devices.
