PSafe’s dfndr lab, specializing in digital security, has identified a new scheme that illegally uses Netflix’s name to steal victims’ personal information and credit card data. So far, more than 6,000 detections of this scam have been recorded.

How does this scam work?
Emilio Simoni, director of the dfndr lab, explains the scheme: “With the intention of deceiving Netflix customers, scammers steal the name and graphics of the well-known streaming platform. They approach their victims through emails with a malicious link, which directs them to a fake website posing as the official Netflix website. By clicking on this link, the victim is tricked into providing personal and credit card details for a supposed registration update. Those who provide this information hand over their sensitive data to scammers, making them likely victims of bank fraud “.

How to protect yourself from this type of digital scam:
The experts at dfndr lab list some precautions that everyone should take to avoid falling into phishing scams (malicious links):

1 – Use mobile security solutions that offer protection against digital threats. dfndr security, for example, sends security alerts in real-time to its users whenever they receive a malicious link or fake news, whether it’s on Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, via SMS, or in the browser.

2 – Always search and check to assure you’re on the official website for every company when you receive information through the Internet. Be wary of promotions, sensational news, discounts — and any administrative action that requires you to re-furnish personal / financial information.

3 – Be careful when clicking on links shared through Facebook, TikTok, and other social networks. Also be especially wary of any unknown email contacts. Don’t provide personal information to websites unless you’re certain of their authenticity.

4 – When in doubt, it is possible to check if a link is fake on the dfndr lab website. Checking the links notifies you in a few seconds whether a website may offer any malicious features.

You’ll probably stick to watching Netflix in your home or a friend’s home. Watching Netflix on Android can be exciting because you are not restricted to a certain spot. You can watch Netflix while walking around, in bed under a blanket, or while making popcorn.

Use a Social App to Improve Your Netflix Experience

Maybe you like to Netflix and chill with friends, or else solo. If you want to mix up how you watch, why not try the Mimitate app? This app is available for free from the Play store, and it’s a social app that allows you to connect to other Netflix users. You can use it as a Netflix “dating” app, or as a way to bond with others who like the same shows as you. In this app, a woman starts the conversation so that women do not receive unwanted communication.

Both men and women who use the app are encouraged to make off-the-wall or amusing facial expressions. A man will take a selfie and then write text about what show he’s watching, and ask if anyone wants to watch the show with him, or what others think about the show. Then, if a woman is interested, she will respond by mimicking the man’s selfie expression. If the man is interested in the woman, he can then chat to make plans for watching their favorite show together — now that’s a new way to Netflix, chill, and date.

<![CDATA[How to Speed Up Netflix on Your Smartphone]]> https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/speed-netflix-smartphone/ Tue, 31 Jan 2017 12:00:32 +0000 https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/?p=7415 Netflix streaming is usually very reliable. However, if you run into trouble streaming Netflix on your device, try one of these tips.

Watching Netflix on your phone can help you to kill time while you’re out and about. Plus, Netflix’s mobile app tends to work better than Hulu’s mobile app, among others. Still, just because the Netflix app tends to work better than other apps — i.e. videos load faster, less lag time, etc. — doesn’t mean that the app always runs as smoothly as it should. Before testing out other options, be sure to check your Wi-Fi’s current speed. Click here to test your connection:

Wifi check

If your Wi-Fi is lagging behind, that could be why you’re having trouble watching Netflix on your smartphone. Click below to close applications running on your smartphone in order to speed up your Internet connection:

Accelerate Internet

If the speed of your Wi-Fi isn’t the issue, never fear: the following are some additional ways you can ensure that Netflix is running as smoothly as possible on your device.

Restart Your Device

Netflix suggests that most streaming problems on mobile devices can be fixed simply by turning the device on and off again. If you repeatedly have to turn your device on and off, though, you might find your streaming issue comes from a different source.

Move Your Router…Or Your Device

If you’re using a Wi-Fi router, you could find that your streaming is slower because of obstructions in the way. While Netflix functions well at a low-connectivity speed, you could still find problems with your connection. Try removing interference issues from around your router, like microwaves and cordless phones, if applicable. You can also put your router on a higher surface, like a bookshelf or window. If all else fails, simply move your device closer to the router.

Run a Virus Scan

Another reason your phone could be streaming Netflix slowly is that it’s infected with a virus. Make sure your slow streaming isn’t due to an infection on your phone by running a virus scan, and remember to scan your phone for threats regularly. Run a full virus scan of your phone now:

Check Your Network

Use your phone’s data sparingly — streaming too much video on your device will quickly use up your monthly data plan. Instead, make sure you’re connected to a wireless network, either at home or in public. Next, think of where you are: public networks aren’t usually as fast as private networks since they share bandwidth with multiple users. If you’re on a cellular data network or satellite Internet, too, you might experience playback issues because of slow connection speeds.

Check if Unnecessary Apps are Open

If you often forget to close out apps when you’re done using them, your internet may slow down. A buildup of apps running in the background can induce greater lag times. To speed up your internet by ensuring that all superfluous apps have been closed, click here:

Clean Up Your Phone

If your phone doesn’t have much free memory, your phone won’t function properly. Remove unnecessary files and free up space now:

<![CDATA[New: Netflix Lets Users Download Content Offline]]> https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/new-netflix-lets-users-download-content-offline/ Wed, 04 Jan 2017 16:00:45 +0000 https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/?p=6651 Binge watchers will be thrilled to know that Netflix recently released a feature on their app that allows users to download and watch movies and shows offline.

Marathon T.V. watchers everywhere: your time has come. If you haven’t already heard, Netflix now allows viewers to download content offline! That means if you’ve been binge watching your way through Narcos, impeded only by a 9-to-5 work commitment, the Netflix app offers a “download” option to store your favorite shows on your phone or tablet. With programs made available offline, your dreaded commute just got a little brighter.

The exciting roll out

Dedicated Netflix users have been begging for this feature for a while now. And though they’ve fallen on the deaf ears of Netflix CEO, Reed Hastings, who stood adamantly opposed to the idea, the tides have finally turned. There are only two caveats: for now, the download option is only available to smartphones and tablets. Secondly, not everything is available for download just yet. However, fan favorites like Stranger Things and Orange is the New Black are among the chosen ones.

When would I need to use this feature?

Most will find the download feature works best during a commute or generally on the go. The obvious examples are train or plane rides, or even hotels and remote locations that have limited Internet access. There are also venues that provide Internet access, but at a lofty price. Depending on what you’re looking to do, this is a great way to avoid unnecessary expenditures.

How do I use it?

First, be sure your Android is up to date (Android 4.4.2 or later) and that you have (or download) the latest Netflix app. When you’re ready to save content, begin by searching Netflix’s “Available for Download” list, or simply enter the show or movie you want in the search view. Before selecting to download, keep in mind that if you’re on a limited data plan, downloading content is treated like streaming. If you don’t have an unlimited plan, it’s best to accomplish this via an Internet connection. Once downloaded, it’s a simple click and play to watch. You won’t need the Internet, and, if you’re a monthly subscriber, there are no extra fees for the service. Just be sure you prepare and save in advance!

Keeping up with the market

A smart move by Netflix, which has millions of paying users across countries worldwide, it’s projected to increase their subscribers. In the competitive market environment of subscription video-on-demand, platforms must outdo each other’s offers to stay in the game. Between offers from Amazon (Prime Video offers content for download) as well as YouTube Red, this was the clear next move in Netflix’s evolution.

Both the Netflix and Hulu mobile apps utilize a similar design across devices, which makes the apps easy to use, whether you’re accessing them on a TV, computer, tablet, or phone. Netflix and Hulu tend to work best on your TV or computer. You have full access to all of the apps’ features and experience few glitches and loading issues. But, when you try to access either app on your mobile device, there seems to be never-ending connectivity issues, despite a seemingly reliable Wi-Fi connection. What gives?

If your Wi-Fi isn’t stable or fast, you might experience more issues using the streaming apps on your phone. While it might be tempting to use your phone’s data to watch a new episode of your favorite TV show on the go, this isn’t a good move for those who have smaller monthly data plans. If your Wi-Fi connection is reliable, sometimes connectivity issues can occur because your device is too far from your router. While other devices may not have issues using the service farther from the router, it may be harder for your phone to achieve a stable connection.

If you’re having trouble using or loading other apps on your device, a far away router may be the issue. This can be solved by moving closer to the router, or else moving your router to a more central location in your home. Generally, you may experience less connectivity issues with the Netflix mobile app than the Hulu app, because Netflix claims it can function at a lower connectivity speed. If other apps are working well, then it could be an app-specific problem. Before you report an issue, double-check your internet connection and try restarting your device.

Which App Has Better Mobile Features?
Both mobile apps typically have great video and sound quality, though this will vary depending on your connection speed. Again, Netflix tends to stream videos at a higher quality than Hulu. It’s often easier to cast Netflix to your TV. With Hulu, this process can be difficult. As for watching videos, the Netflix app is also more likely to remember where you left off in a TV episode than Hulu. It can be hard to rewind or fast-forward on both apps, but this is often easier to do on Netflix. Unless you have the premium version of Hulu, you may have to sit through the same commercial you saw a second ago. It may also be difficult to sync your Hulu watch list across devices, or to add new videos or full seasons on your phone. Netflix is thus the clear winner when it comes to use on your mobile device.

But watch out — you’ll need to make sure you get too addicted!

You’ve already got the smartphone, but you now want to load it with the video streaming app that best fits your viewing habits. Below we compare price and capabilities of four of the most popular services, to help you decide which you want to carry around your pocket.

1. Amazon Prime Instant Video

$99 per year subscription; free app.

While there is a charge for premium video content like new releases or popular shows and movies, Amazon Prime Instant Video still lets you stream many of your favorites at no additional cost. While some users report finding the app a little difficult to use, a major benefit of Amazon Prime is that you also get free two-day shipping for all purchases–so you can shop while you watch!

2. Hulu

Free with commercials; $7.99 per month for limited commercials; $11.99 per month for no commercials; free app

Although it does offer movies, Hulu is known primarily known for its expansive and international selection of TV shows. One of Hulu’s best features is how quickly it updates current seasons of network programming — new episodes of most TV shows are made available less than a day after airing. The Hulu app also has a 4-star rating (out of 5), though some report not loving the design.

3. Netflix

$10 per month subscription; free app

Despite an unpopular recent price increase, Netflix still offers one of the most comprehensive libraries of TV and movies in the business — including a number of popular foreign titles. The Netflix app also works well, offering good customer support and with lots of support and easy compatibility across devices.

4. Google Play

Free app; in-app purchases

Unlike its competitors, Google Play doesn’t come with a pre-stocked library of TV shows or movies, but rather lets users purchase what they want to watch on a piecemeal basis. Google Play is generally well-liked — especially with its Chromecast support — and many smartphones now come with the app already installed.

Whichever service you choose, make sure your viewing experience is not ruined by a slow stream: download PSafe Total for free to make sure your video is never interrupted. With its Memory Booster feature, PSafe Total helps you use data more efficiently, and cleans up storage so your device can run more smoothly.
