How does dfndr lab detect malicious URLs?

dfndr lab detects malicious links in these following ways:

  1. Machine-learning-based detection of potentially unsafe URLs, based on our proprietary technology;
  2. Cross-referencing a constantly-updated URL database that our phishing detector partners, such as major financial institutions, have classified as suspect;
  3. Live review of suspect links and sites by our in-house security analysts, if the above two methods generate inconclusive results.

dfndr lab guidance: If you are not 100% confident in the URL or website, you should not click on it.

If you have questions about why a URL or website was flagged as suspect, or if you believe a classification was made in error, please contact us at
