How to Stream the Oscars on Your Android

Find out how you can stream the Academy Awards on your smartphone.

This year’s Academy Awards are just around the corner. The show will air this Sunday, February 26, at 8 p.m. EST on ABC. But what happens if you don’t have cable, or a TV? The solution: you can stream the show live on your Android device. Luckily, there are a couple of ways that this can be achieved on your smartphone or tablet. However, keep in mind that the show isn’t as widely accessible as other major events.

Before you test out one of these ways to watch the Oscars, make sure that your Internet is in its best possible shape for livestreaming the show. The ABC App

You can download the “ABC – Live TV & Full Episodes” app for free from the Google Play store. Through this app you can watch live TV and events, such as the Oscars. However, the ABC live stream is only available with select TV providers (like Verizon, Comcast, AT&T, and etc.) in select cities: New York City, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Chicago, San Francisco, Houston, Fresno, and Raleigh-Durham. Be sure to check ABC’s website for a full list of participating cities and TV providers.

DirecTV subscribers in certain cities can also access the live stream. These locations include: Boston, Albuquerque, Jackson (MI), Savannah, West Palm Beach, Pittsburgh, Milwaukee, Portland-Auburn, Fort Smith/Fayetteville, Kansas City, Monterey-Salinas, Omaha, and Oklahoma City.

Use Your Browser

You can stream the show on ABC’s website. You’ll need an account with a participating TV provider in order to stream the show live, but this option isn’t as location-selective as the ABC app. Nonetheless, check ABC’s website to make sure you’ll be able to livestream the event in your city. Further, make sure that your Web browser is up to date for the best viewing experience.

The Sling TV App

You can download this app for free from the Play store, but you’ll need to pay for a subscription to access the service long-term. However, there’s a 7-day free trial available, which you can use to stream the Oscars. A monthly subscription will cost about $20 per month, and you can access Sling TV on all of your Android devices, plus your PC, gaming console, Roku, and beyond.
