Walmart is Developing a New Smartphone Checkout App
This new checkout app was designed to replace their failed Scan & Go app. So far, their new app has been much more successful.
After the failure of their Scan & Go app, Walmart decided to scrap the program. The Scan & Go app had a lot of bug issues, with few updates or fixes. It also didn’t perform its main function well: to scan an item, pay for it without standing in line, and go. As a result, Walmart listened to customer feedback in order to create a new, better app that worked as promised.
Walmart’s new checkout app is simply called the Walmart app, and it is available for free from the Google Play store. It will work on any smartphone that has a camera and apps. As far as app permissions go, the Walmart app needs access to your phone’s camera in order to function. The camera will only be used to scan barcodes and QR codes.

Introducing: Walmart Pay
The Walmart app is similar to other mobile payment methods such as Android Pay and Apple Pay, because you can link your bank account or a credit card to the app and use the app to pay for your goods at checkout. To pay, a barcode on your phone will be scanned. The transaction will be secured through a passcode or your fingerprint.
New Features to the Walmart App
This app has a lot of great, useful features for Walmart shoppers. In addition to Walmart Pay, you can also: order and track prescription refills at the pharmacy; access and create baby and wedding registries; create and manage a wish list for you or others; receive notifications on weekly deals; look up information about Walmart’s locations, inventory, hours, and aisle locations; and pick up any goods ordered to the store faster, among other features.
There’s also the Savings Catcher feature that is a form of price-matching after you have purchased the item. This feature will compare any eligible Walmart items that you bought with the same items available at Walmart’s competitors. If any of the items are available at a lower price, Walmart will give you an eGift card of the difference between the items. After purchase, you’ll have seven days to scan your receipt to take advantage of any savings. Buyer’s remorse will certainly be a thing of the past.
Success of the Walmart App
This app is already much more successful than the Scan & Go app, and offers a lot more features than the previous app or even other store apps like Target’s Cartwheel. It is a truly competitive app that rewards Walmart customers with deals, coupons, a new payment method, price-matching, and more.
